Let’s talk about the food in New Zealand

From my various social media accounts, many of you will know that I recently spent two weeks in New Zealand to catch the British & Irish Lions on tour.

Whilst the number one reason for going was to support the Lions and watch some rugby, we also planned a huge travel route to see as much of the country as possible.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you may recall that I’ve been to New Zealand before but it was on a pretty limited budget (I went after my fresher year of uni). This time round, I have a full-time job so I’ve been saving like a crazy person for nearly two years.

After scrimping on going out to eat the last time I visited New Zealand (a backpacker’s budget allows for very few restaurant meals), we made the most of it during this trip. Continue reading…

Getting through a flight to New Zealand

On Friday, I flew out of Gatwick on a 21.45 flight, bound (ultimately) for Auckland, New Zealand.

Nearly 28 hours later, with a stopover in Dubai and a refueling stop in Melbourne, I arrived in NZ on Sunday lunchtime.

I have done this journey before with Malaysian Airlines but flew via Kuala Lumpur and stopped there for a 3 day visit. I also did that trip on my own whereas I was with my parents this time.Emirates, airbus a380, airplane, aeroplane, airport, flightHere’s a real-time look at how I spent those 28 hours…  Continue readng…

Summer Days

It’s a definite bonus to being a student that we get a very long Summer holiday – nearly four months long. You’ll never have this much time off once you start full-time work (or if you do, please let me know what profession you’re in), so I think it’s important to make the most of it.

After my first year at UCB, I worked my part-time waitressing job for the first few months and then took off to New Zealand and Australia, via Malaysia, for six weeks. I worked extra hours at my job to save money and then went on my trip of a lifetime. I’ve always wanted to travel to that part of the world and it didn’t disappoint. I had the most amazing time travelling through New Zealand, met lots of great people, and had so much fun. I caught up with old friends in Australia and went on a few mini-adventures, ticking off a number of places on my dream travel list.

Where Can I Go Next?

This is precisely the thought I have at least 10 times a week. I am always trying to plan my next holiday or trip abroad and, as listed on my About Me page, I try to visit a new country every year. 2014 has been a little slow on the travel front (a few trips to Spain, including a crazy week on the UCB Sports Tour – more on that in a later post) but we have a Sports Management course trip to Poland in December, so I will tick that box again for another year.

This day (19 August) in 2013 saw me leave England on an epic five-week trip to New Zealand and Australia with a two-night stop over in Kuala Lumpur. Continue reading…
