Budget Beauty #2

Soap and Glory products are my Christmas bargain purchase every year. In the Boots sales, I always buy a bulk load that lasts me months and this time was no exception. In fact, the reason this review is so delayed is because I bought such a big set that I didn’t have enough room in my suitcase to bring it back with me in January, so had to wait until I was back in the UK again last month and had more luggage space.

The Spa of Wonder set was a Christmas special retailing initially at £60 but sold for £30 when it was a Star Gift in early December and also when in the sales (which is when I bought it). It contains 10 products, with skincare, makeup and shower/bath toiletries included, in a good quality box with a hologram image on (sadly, I couldn’t keep the box as I really did not have space in my suitcase!). All the products are full-size so this really was a bargain buy (total product value is £77.50). soap and glory, spa wonder, boots, beauty products, beauty review, righteous butter, scrub of your life, clean on me, face mask, make up, gift box, beauty box soap and glory, spa wonder, boots, beauty products, beauty review, face mask, make upI have used a few of these Soap and Glory products before but some were new ones for me to try. I’ll give you my thoughts on all of them though, as well as the individual retail prices for each product. Continue reading…

DIY gel nails from SensatioNail

I love having painted nails. It wasn’t always this way though (nail biting habit and then played team sports so had to keep my nails short) but that’s why I love it so much now.

With no restrictions, I now have a vast stock of nail colours (including these summer picks) and I try to have painted nails most of the time (with breaks to restore some health and vitality).

I have, however, never managed to paint my nails without them quickly smudging or chipping. I could paint them in the afternoon, go to bed hours later and still wake up with them covered in sheet squiggles – you know what I mean by those, right?

Knowing my ongoing frustration Continue reading…

Budget Beauty #1

With winter in full, snowy flow this week, it’s more important than ever to take care of your skin. I’ve got through so many products recently trying to keep my face, hands and body moisturised and nourished during the cold weather.

Despite not being a beauty blogger or even knowing that much about beauty at all, my beauty-focused posts always seem to be well-received (thanks readers!). So, today, I’m starting a new post-series which will look at some budget beauty brands and will review a selection of products from these companies. Continue reading…

Sampling Beauty: round-up

With more than £14bn spent each year on beauty and personal care products in the UK and knowing that I contribute to that in a really really small way, I thought it would be fun to expand my knowledge of beauty products and give some new items a try.

I started this back in February with the first of my five Sampling Beauty posts. Each of these posts contains my honest reviews of beauty products that I’d never tried before and some from brands I’d never even heard of before. (Note: these posts were not sponsored)

For a selection of products to try, I subscribed to Love Me Beauty. This gives you 60 credits a month to use against their beauty edit and usually allows you to choose at least 3 items. The products then come in a unique, make-up bag which is different each month. These are a couple of my favourite ones: love me beauty, beauty bags, make up bag, beauty productsI also chose Continue reading…

Sampling Beauty #5

This Sampling Beauty post covers June and July selections as, with a holiday and a house move, I didn’t get around to trying most of these products until August.

A few of my favoured brands – Caudalie and Nuxe – are highlighted in this post but I’ve tried and reviewed some products from their ranges that I hadn’t used before.

Read on for my thoughts on my latest samples… Continue reading…

Sampling Beauty #4

There’s been a bit of a gap since my last Sampling Beauty post. For various reasons, including a holiday, an international house move, a new job and basically just not having the time or energy to even think about adding new products into my beauty and skincare regime.

Because of this, these picks were actually my May/June selections! Here’s what I got from Love Me Beauty and Feel Unique: Continue reading…

Sampling Beauty #2

I chose a broad range of products in March’s Feel Unique pick ‘n’ mix samples and my Love Me Beauty bag. Whilst I’m completely sold on a few of the picks, some of the products were just a step too far from my humble beauty routine. From Googling ‘what is cleanser for?’ to the far-from-ideal consistency and look of a body cream-gel, it was a month full of new product experiences for me. Continue reading…

Bumbling beauty

It amazes me to see how many really, really successful beauty bloggers there are out there. Amazing to me when beauty regimes, make-up tutorials, and product reviews are read and watched by millions every day. Why? Well, because they just aren’t something I can relate to nor have I ever really understood the complete obsession with.

Those who know me, will know that I am more than comfortable make-up free. I didn’t start wearing make-up at all until I was around 20 and that was only because I was working as a trainee retail manager for a high street fashion chain and the store manager I worked for told me I had to wear make-up to work. Yes, really. Thankfully, I’m pretty resilient so didn’t take it as an insult or let it knock my confidence which others might have done! To placate her, I started using mascara.

Fast forward a decade and you really can’t avoid the world of beauty must-haves and make-up tutorials to show you how to contour, enhance, highlight and, more often than not, turn you into a totally different looking person. I’ll be honest. I still don’t get it.  Continue reading…
