4 reasons why brunch is the best meal of the day

Brunch is the perfect combination of breakfast and lunch. Whilst I tend to reserve brunch for a weekend activity, when I have time to relax and eat for hours, I’m envious of anyone whose life allows weekday brunch as well.

In today’s post, I’m going to share my top 4 reasons why brunch is the best meal of the day.

1. Savoury and sweet on one plate, yes please – acceptable brunch food covers a wide variety of options, from pancakes and French toast to burgers and salads. At brunch, it is completely ok to have both sweet and savoury food on one plate. Load me up with brioche French toast, maple syrup and crispy bacon or a hearty plate of huevos rancheros and I am a very happy lady.

2. Ideal time of the day – I’m not a morning person and even if I am awake early, I can’t stomach food for the first few hours of being up. Brunch is the perfect solution to this, falling somewhere after 11am until mid-afternoon, you can get a lie-in and then indulge in a food-fest.

3. It’s the most sociable mealtime – rounding up a few friends and going out for brunch is so much fun but even if we just have family brunch at home, it’s such an enjoyable social occasion. I love how leisurely brunch is, that you’re not rushing to be anywhere else or do anything else.

4. Acceptable to drink alcohol in the morning / daytime – us Brits aren’t that judgemental about drinking booze in the morning anyways but brunch makes alcohol acceptable before noon in other countries too. I appreciate the fruit juice and alcohol combinations that are widely seen on a brunch menu – bloody mary, buck’s fizz/mimosa, bellini – but if you want a pint of beer or a G&T, then I really don’t think anyone will frown upon it either. And, if they do, then you’re probably with the wrong brunch crowd.

Convinced yet? If brunch isn’t your favourite meal of the day, then I honestly think you’re not doing it right! If you’re already a big fan, get in touch and let me know your go-to brunch places.
