A boozy Christmas

For no particular reason, there are some drinks that I only drink at Christmas time and I know I’m not the only one. Yes, I’m thinking of Baileys, port, sloe gin, brandy and anything hot and mulled.

To really make the most of some of these drinks, I’ve pulled together some great cocktail recipes from Difford’s Guide and with the experienced help of my brother and sister-in-law so that you won’t be dragging that bottle of Baileys from one Christmas to the next (you know I’m not wrong here!) and you can even make use of the awful bottle of wine you were given as a client gift or won in the raffle at the Christmas party!

Irish Alexander

1 1/2 shots brandy

1  1/2 shots Baileys

1 shot double cream

Shake all ingredients together with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Dust with freshly grated nutmeg.

Chocolate Sidecar

1 shot brandy

1 shot dark chocolate liqueur

1 shot port

1 shot freshly squeezed lime juice

1/2 shot sugar syrup

Shake all ingredients together with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Dust with cocoa powder.

Hot Rum Punch

1 shot golden rum

1 shot brandy

1/2 shot sherry

1 shot freshly squeezed lime juice

Add ingredients to a mug, fill up with boiling water. Top with a teaspoon of brandy butter.

Mulled Wine

Further to my post a few days ago, add some port and that bottle of red you were given but won’t drink by the glass to make your mulled wine.

The key to any of these drinks is to use up booze that would otherwise be put back in the cupboard from one Christmas to the next. Let me know how you get on. Cheers!
